Manfred Schubert (R)

Manfred Schubert was born on April 27, 1937 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. He studied with Rudolf Wagner-Regeny at the German Academy of the Arts from 1960-1963. Since 1963 he has been working in Berlin as a freelance composer, conductor and music critic of the "Berliner Zeitung." His music has many different faces originating from the mainstream tradition of modern music from the first half of the 20th century. His style underwent a change after he was exposed to the music of the Second Viennese School and the Polish School. This found its expression in some of his chamber music and orchestral music from the mid-sixties and the early seventies. Since those pieces, though, Schubert has been deliberately using traditional and current composition techniques, combining them all into a convincing synthesis.
He died in 2011
