Bernhard Rodgers

American composer. He studied with Goetschius at the Institute of Musical Art in New York (1921-2) and in Europe with Bridge and Boulanger (1927-9); until 1967 he taught at the Eastman School. His works include oratorios and psalm settings, five symphonies (1926-59) and other orchestral music in a finely coloured tonal style. His The Art of Orchestration (1951) is a standard work.
